Capstone: Synthesis of DLL

The 12 courses of this DLL program have significantly amplified my strengths as a learner and leader. Every course and the numerous rigorous assignments provided authentic opportunities to explore and reconnect with my learning philosophy and teaching manifesto. I am most grateful that Lamar employed the notion of a Growth Mindset in our first two courses. This attributed to my overall success in the program by helping me reframe my perspective as a learner, a teacher, and as a leader. It helped me to push through the struggles of juggling many roles (Grad student, instructor, wife, mother).
As a life-long learner, I understand the value of reflection. As I embark upon a new culture of learning in my organization, I regard a question from Roselinde Torres. “Are you courageous to abandon the past?” I can most definitely let go of the past, however, I believe the past should be embodied as a foundation for future development. I don’t want to just keep doing what has always been done instead, I will acknowledge what worked well and build upon it. With that being said, I'd like to take a walk down memory lane to consider my learning journey in this DLL Master's program.
Lamar’s education department believes in the COVA Approach. Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic opportunities was a unique style of facilitating learning that granted me the opportunity to take an active role in the process. This was unlike any college course I had ever taken before. The authenticity of my learning synchronized with the reality of my organizational setting. I found myself more engaged because of this. The complete freedom to choose my learning path was refreshing.
This COVA experience led to my blended learning innovation plan. My research showed that blended learning sets an environment for student-centered, personalized instruction with open access to continuous engagement beyond the classroom. every course offered an opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and update my plan. As I finish out this Master’s program, I will continue to share my learning with others, advocate for equitable education, and continuously seek ways to improve. I began this program thinking I would learn more about technology integration. Little did I know, I would be propelled into a mastermind plan to shake up learning for my entire campus. This is not the end but the beginning of a new journey in which I will lead a learning revolution!
